US tilapia farmer Blue Ridge Aquaculture is investing $2.5 million (€2.1 million) in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) hatchery in Martinsville, Virginia, to support existing farming operations.
Blue Ridge produces 4 million pounds of tilapia per year and ships between 10,000 and 20,000 pounds of live fish daily.
Construction of the facility is expected to be finished in January 2021, at which times tanks will be stocked with fish.
