An effort to establish offshore aquaculture in the US waters inched forward on Tuesday with the introduction of the Advancing the Quality and Understanding of American Aquaculture (AQUAA) Act in the US House of Representatives.

A companion bill was introduced in the US Senate in October. Both measures seek to establish a framework for offshore aquaculture in federal waters.

The bipartisan AQUAA Act would establish national standards for offshore aquaculture and clarify a regulatory system for the farming of fish in the US exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
