The Norwegian Fisheries Directorate is reporting an ongoing algal bloom hitting salmon farms in Troms and in Nordland.

Salmon farmers in the areas are increasing monitoring and have started to report mortalities at their sites.

“Companies must activate individual contingency plans and introduce measures to prevent and deal with any situations that arise," said the directorate.

An increase of algae presence was first noticed in Ballangen last week, but reports from Troms Tuesday indicate the bloom is spreading further north.
