Chilean salmon farmer Salmones Camanchaca recaptured 1,268 out of the 124,309 salmon that escaped from its farm on Aug. 27, according to the country's National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service, Sernapesca.
The event involved one cage of 500-gram fish at Camanchaca's San Jose site in the Los Lagos region.
Sernapesca has asked Camanchaca for verification of the state of cage structures and nets through filming with the use of underwater ROVs and the center's surveillance cameras, fish count and records to determine the exact number of escaped fish.
