Aquaculture startup Great British Prawns is launching land-based shrimp farms in the United Kingdom amid the turbulent Brexit crisis, in part because the founders see it as a key solution to food security.

"It is critical to the future of growing food without trashing the environment,” CEO Douglas Allen told IntraFish.

“Shrimp farming is moving progressively into a recirculation aquaculture system (RAS) world, and we’ve adopted it because we recognize that we can’t carry on shipping food across the world."
