UK consumers have proved resilient in the face of tough economic times over the past decade. For example, they continue stepping up purchases of more expensive farmed seafood, researchers at UK industry authority Seafish found.

The trend is reflected in Seafish research showing that farmed seafood sales at retail have reached £1.4 billion (€1.6 billion/$1.8 billion) in the United Kingdom.

“The most surprising finding for me is that since 2007, despite the austerity and pressure on personal finances, the UK seafood shopper continued to choose to buy more farmed seafood despite it being significantly more expensive,” Seafish Market Analyst Richard Watson told IntraFish.
