The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) is introducing a version of its Tartan Salmon brand designed specifically for the Japanese market.

The salmon producer currently exports to around 26 countries with a key focus on the Far East and the United States, where it has seen a two-fold increase in exports over the past two years.

Half of the company's revenues are currently derived from its global export activities.

"In 2016, we introduced Tartan designs to our range of fresh Scottish salmon," CEO Craig Anderson said. "These instantly recognizable Scottish designs were so popular that we have trademarked the Tartan Salmon brand name to represent Scottish excellence in Japan."

Japan is the second largest consumer of seafood in the world.

The company recently announced potential plans to sell a portion of or all of the company to new owners.
