Andfjord Salmon, the land-based salmon farmer with investment from international food giant Jeronimo Martins, released its first smolt into its growout pool in Norway on Saturday.

Approximately 200,000 smolt from Nordland Akva at an average weight of 120 grams were released into the pool in Kvalnes, Andoya, in northern Norway.

“Our concept is centered around recreating the salmon’s natural habitat on land, as far as it is practically possible to do so," CEO Martin Rasmussen said, adding that they were now entering a period with increasing amounts of natural light and rising temperatures, both good for fish health and development.
