The Norwegian organic salmon sector is anxiously awaiting a final decision from EU regulators that could change the course of what has become an increasingly profitable segment for some suppliers, experts told IntraFish.
In July 2016, European regulators imposed a temporary ban prohibiting sellers in the European Union from labeling Norwegian organic salmon as "organic," after authorities in the country failed to meet a deadline to introduce European requirements into the Norwegian norm.
According to the European Commission’s organic regulations, non-EU members within the European Economic Area (EEA), including Norway, must comply with European regulations and include them in their national regulations in order to export organic-labeled products into the union.
