Brazilian aquaculture producers are expecting a return to growth in the production of native fish in 2021 after years of declines and low prices.

Production has fallen over the past four years years as producers, discouraged by lower prices, placed fewer fish in ponds and cages -- a situation that is now being reversed because reduced availability of these fish has led to higher prices and more interest in boosting production.

"This year it could increase by up to 5 percent," Francisco Medeiros, president of aquaculture producers trade group Peixe BR, told IntraFish.
