Spanish equipment manufacturer Marine Instruments has developed a feeding system for shrimp based on active acoustics technology, a new concept that could revolutionize feeding at shrimp farms, Juan Luis Freire, technical sales officer at Marine Instruments, told IntraFish.

The technology, Aquo Smart Feeder, has been trialed in Nicaragua and Ecuador with promising results.

The new system integrates passive acoustic technology – something that is already in use in shrimp feeding – and active acoustic technology, and can also integrate sensor technologies such as temperature detectors.
