Blue Ocean Mariculture said Friday it has hired Dave Mergle to lead its marketing and sales strategy for Hawaiian Kanpachi (Seriola rivoliana).

Blue Ocean is banking on Mergle’s success in developing new products and brands, relationships with chefs and knowledge of seafood sustainability issues to help it grow its brand.

Megle is credited with building Grieg Seafood's Skuna Bay salmon brand. He served as director at British Columbia-based Ocean Quality North America, Grieg's sales organization.

"Dave's expertise will accelerate our product development efforts and entry into new markets, and it reaffirms our commitment to our leadership position in sustainable open ocean aquaculture," said Todd Madsen, president of Blue Ocean.
