The Scottish Salmon Producers Organisation (SSPO) is throwing its weight behind plans to bring in a swifter and more streamlined regulatory system for the country's fish farming sector.

The ruling Scottish National Party (SNP) in Scotland is pledging to introduce a single, determining authority for new farm consents modelled on the regulatory regime in Norway.

“We have been clear: What we want to see is better regulation, not less regulation, and this commitment in the SNP manifesto shows that the SNP wants to see this too,” SSPO Chief Executive Tavish Scott said in a statement.
