Scottish salmon farmers responded to a petition by nonprofit organization SumOfUs asking Marine Scotland to take "emergency action" against salmon farmers in the country, reports BBC.

The petition, which reached 40,000 signatures, claimed that disease has become more likely due to the rising sea temperatures of summer.

"The Scottish salmon farming sector operates to a level of transparency that is unparalleled in other food production sectors," said Hamish Macdonell, director of strategic engagement for the Scottish Salmon Producers Organisation (SSPO).
