Scottish salmon producer Loch Duart has introduced a low carbon emissions hybrid feed storage barge.

The barge, which will service Loch Duart's farm site in Oldany, Scotland, is already in operation, which makes Loch Duart the first Scottish salmon farmer to use a low carbon emission barge, according to the company.

The barge's hybrid power system combines battery and diesel power and will reduce the site’s diesel consumption by up to 60 percent compared to standard diesel systems.

The carbon dioxide emissions from the production of the barge's batteries will be earned back after about 60 days of use, the company said.
