Salmon producer Bakkafrost's first quarter harvests in the Faroe Islands fell 22 percent year on year to 10,700 metric tons, but were bolstered by the 7,300 metric tons of additional production harvested from its newly acquired Scottish Salmon Company operations.

Production in the company's northern Faroes farm sites nudged down 6 percent to 6,300 metric tons after almost tripling last year.

In its western Faroes operations Bakkafrost harvested a substantial 60 percent less salmon, at 2,800 metric tons, but in the south production rose to 1,600 metric tons from nothing last year, despite a huge loss of fish from one of its sites due to a storm at the end of February.
