The majority of publicly listed salmon companies saw increases in profit margins during the third quarter, compared with the same quarter last year.

Salmon farmers operating in northern and central Norway in particular reported solid margins.

Mowi posted record-breaking figures.

"I am very satisfied with a quarter where we have seen good biological performances with good growth in sea and good feed utilization, in addition to record volumes," Mowi CEO Ivan Vindheim said.

However, at the other end of the scale, salmon companies operating in Scotland struggled with increased mortality as a result of a microscopic jellyfish that caused problems with the fish's gills.
