Norwegian producer Engesund's new 1,500 metric ton concrete salmon farm was stocked with fish in October and to date things are going well.

"The fish has a good appetite, actually better than expected," said R&D Manager Gisle André Enstad, speaking at Sintef's Tekmar conference in Trondheim last week. "Mortality is low. Both of these things indicate that there is good fish welfare on board."

The idea is that smolt will grow up to half a kilo in the closed 30 x 20 meter cage so the young fish is more robust before it is placed in the open sea.
