News the Norwegian government is open to modifying its proposed 40 percent tax hike on the nation's salmon farmers sent salmon company shares on the Oslo stock exchange rising as much as 8 percent Wednesday morning.

Salmar shares climbed more than 8 percent, while Mowi shares recorded a 5 percent increase. Lerøy, Austevoll and Grieg Seafood all also saw gains.

Salmar, the company with the largest share of its operating profit from its Norwegian operations, saw a major drop earlier this autumn when the tax proposal was first announced.
