Chile's new draft constitution is slanted too far in favor of the environment, threatening to harm salmon producers' businesses, trade association SalmonChile said.

SalmonChile President Arturo Clement said he welcomes moves to modernize the Chilean constitution, first implemented under the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, but in comments made in a blog posted on the trade group's website he said, "we see a worrying bias with an extremely environmentalist focus."

It is unclear how regulations, especially those related to the environment, will affect how the aquaculture industry operates, Clement said.
