Some 92,700 almost harvest-ready fish have died at one of salmon farming giant Mowi's Canadian farms due to low dissolved oxygen levels in the water, according to the country's Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture.

The mortality event happened at a Mowi farm on the south coast of Newfoundland and Labrador known as The Gorge.

Under the province's aquaculture regulations, abnormal mortality of over 10 percent must be publicly reported. In this instance, 92,700 fish from a total site number of 900,000 are affected or just over 10 percent.
