Russian fish farming companies are suffering from an acute lack of feed after major suppliers from Denmark, Norway and Finland refused to do business with them in response to Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Trout farms in Russia's Karelia region, on Finland's border, produce up to 70 percent of Russia’s total farmed trout output, accounting for more than half of the country’s domestic market. They have until the end of May to solve the problem.

"Annually, our region consumed around 50 metric tons of fish feed," the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries of Karelia, Vladimir Labinov, told Russian media outlet Kommersant.
