The aquaculture sector represents great potential for insurers and reinsurers but there are significant challenges which to date have pretty much shaped the relatively short history of the aquaculture insurance market, which has only really emerged as a risk distinct from live/blood stock or, more generally, agriculture, over the course of the past decade or so, reports Insurance Day.
Indeed, the aquaculture sector is regarded by most insurers as a very volatile area in which to do business. So much so that while other classes of business are affected by overcapacity in the current soft market, the opposite is true in the aquaculture insurance market.
