Warmer ocean water resulting from climate change could exacerbate a phenomenon in which farmed salmon form cataracts that lead to eventual blindness in the fish.

Scientists at Norway's National Institute of Nutrition and Seafood Resarch (NIFES) recently uncovered new details about the link between sea temperature and blindness in salmon.

"These are permanent damages to the lens. The worst case scenario is that the vision is so impaired that the fish cannot see the feed, stop eating and stop growing," said Sofie Remø, a scientist at NIFES.
