Aquaculture experts from Scotland and Chile are collaborating with an R&D team from animal breeding company Hendrix Genetics to study and improve measures for treating complex gill disease (CGD), including early detection, with funding support coming in from the Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC).

A new type of CGD emerged in Chile in 2018. The variation progressed particularly quickly and led to stock losses.

Following the outbreak in Chile, researchers from Hendrix Genetics, the University of Edinburgh's Roslin Institute, and the Institute of Aquaculture at the University of Stirling collected and analyzed samples.
