A new report on the Scottish salmon industry by the government's cross-party Environment Committee suggests expanding salmon farming in Scotland could cause “irreversible damage,” reports The National.

The Environment Committee said it is “deeply concerned” about the potential harm to local ecosystems.

“Scotland is at a critical point in considering how salmon farming develops in a sustainable way in relation to the environment,” said the report.

“The planned expansion of the industry over the next 10-15 years will place huge pressures on the environment.”
