Joe McElwee resigned Monday from his position as global sales manager for commercial aquaculture at water treatment specialist Pentair.

Mc Elwee has been in the aquaculture industry for more than 21 years, according to his LinkedIn profile. He started out running one of the early land-based farms in Connemara, Ireland, producing halibut and turbot.

He did stints at IFA Aquaculture in Ireland and Atlantic Sea Smolts in Canada before joining US-based Pentair in June 2013.

McElwee said he was pursuing "alternative career options."
