Growth in farmed seabass and seabream production, particularly in Turkey, over the next two years will hoist global production over the 500,000-metric-tons mark for the first time.

The forecast was made during a presentation by Rabobank analyst Gorjan Nikolik during the Global Aquaculture Alliance's (GAA) annual GOAL conference, which this year is being held online.

Data is based on respondents' answers to the GAA's annual production survey and forecast questionnaire.

Strong growth years in 2018 and 2019, helped in part by a recovering Greek sector, led to oversupply.
