Residents in Jonesport, Maine, voted Wednesday on whether or not to institute a six-month moratorium on aquaculture projects in the town at a time when a Netherlands-based The Kingfish Company is on the verge of getting the necessary final approval from town officials for its land-based farm.

The moratorium proposal was rejected by 201 to 91 votes.

"We are grateful to see that level of overwhelming local support at tonight’s vote," The Kingfish Company CEO Ohad Maiman told IntraFish after the result.
