Dutch animal nutrition giant Nutreco, and parent of aquaculture feed company Skretting, has appointed Paul Bestford as the company’s new chief procurement officer (CPO).

Bestford comes most recently from fashion company Burberry where he led the Global Procurement Function. Previous jobs include leadership positions at Novartis, British Airways, Ernst & Young, John Lewis Partnership and KPMG.

Last month, Nutreco announced it is forming two feed joint ventures in East Africa with Kenya-based Unga Group. One of the new ventures will focus on fish feed development in Kenya -- primarily tilapia and catfish -- while the other will focus on full-scale animal feed development in Uganda.

Also in August, Nutreco - alongside Aqua-Spark and PFR Life Science, a portfolio company of the Polish Development Fund (PFR) - invested €21 million ($24.6 million) in Polish biotechnology company Proteon Pharmaceuticals. The funds aimed to accelerate the commercialization of the company's products.

In July, the company acquired a 12.5 percent stake in Blar -- the company formerly known as Roxel Aqua -- which is developing an offshore aquaculture concept based on use of traditional oil rigs.
