Not all of Maine's land-based aquaculture projects are flopping; these successful ones share some key strategies

While much media attention has focused on the failures of proposed land-based salmon projects in Maine, Sebastian Belle, executive director for the Maine Aquaculture Association, told IntraFish projects harvesting other species are finding success in the state by deploying a simpler strategy.

"If you look at projects being successful, not just in Maine but around the world, the ones breaking ground are low-profile, he said. "They're not looking for a lot of hype. "They’re quietly raising capital and building their facilities."
