It was nearly a decade ago that Palom Aquaculture made headlines as the first company pursuing construction of a land-based recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) salmon farm in Maine.

In 2014, the company acquired the permits from the state for what was to be its 500 metric ton land-based farm with capacity to grow up to 1,500 metric tons of salmon, its then vice president of operations said. However, in 2019 the company stated that while it has all the necessary permits for its project, it lacked funding and was searching for a buyer.
