Despite President Donald Trump's executive order to greatly expand US aquaculture and reduce regulatory limits on the sector, executives in the Norwegian salmon sector told IntraFish it will take time to develop the industry, be it on-land or offshore.

Alf-Goran Knutsen, CEO of Norway-based Kvaroy Arctic, which sells half a billion kroner ($48.9 million/€45.11 million) worth of salmon a year to the United States, said while the US market may have two long stretches of coastline, the country lacks an archipelago, so America will be forced to look past traditional netpen farming.
