Norwegian industry association Sjømatbedriftenes CEO Robert Eriksson has called on the Norwegian government for a compensation scheme for salmon farmers' hit by the recent algal bloom, especially since agricultural farmers received around NOK 2.5 billion (€256.4 million/$285.6 million) following a brutal drought last year.

The algal bloom wiped out more than NOK 1 billion (€102.6 million/$114.2 million) worth of fish since last week and insurers only cover the production cost. Eriksson did not ask for a particular compensation package or amount.
