Land-based salmon farmer Nordic Aquafarms said Saturday it will build a second farm in California.

The company, which is in the process of building a land-based farm in Belfast, Maine, said its subsidiary, California Marine Investments, on Monday will enter into an exclusive agreement with the Humboldt Bay Harbor District to lease 30 acres on the Samoa peninsula near Eureka, California.

“As we did on the East Coast, we conducted a thorough search over the past few months to find the right location for our West Coast expansion,” said Nordic Aquafarms US President Erik Heim.
