Norwegian aquaculture equipment supplier Aqualine is seeking 10 development licenses to further develop a submersible production system for salmon farming.

Providing all goes according to plan, the Aqualine Subsea System will be ready for commercial use in the next few years, the company said.

After successful tests of the concept in SINTEF Marintek’s Ocean Basin Laboratory, the next step is to test out the system full scale in tough conditions.

By lowering the production unit to the desired depth, according to research and hands-on experience, the unit is then located underneath the "lice belt," reducing the risk of sea lice infection.
