With Norway's new "traffic light" production system restricting growth for conventional netpen farming, one company is betting its unique land-based system will be part of the future.

Bulandet Miljofisk R&D Manager Asbjorn Dyrkorn Loland told IntraFish sister site TekFisk it's created a model that utilizes Norway's unique advantages.

The flow-through system sits below sea level, and uses ocean water as an intake, rather than groundwater.

Bulandet Miljofisk has been granted a license to produce 5,500 metric tons of salmon.
