Norway held 840,000 metric tons of farmed salmon in sites across the country in December, up 8 percent year-on-year, according to Norwegian Seafood Federation statistics.
However, the biomass of trout in the sea decreased 15 percent year-on-year to 38,000 metric tons.
Volumes of salmon feed sold went up 14 percent meanwhile to 161,000 metric tons.
Stock overviews reveal 436 million salmon were present in the sea on the last day of December, matching 2019 figures.
However, the average weight of fish increased from 1.8 to 1.9 kilograms, explaining the significant increase in biomass.
Norway exported 134,000 metric tons of farmed salmon in December, up 27 percent year-on-year, while the value decreased 9 percent to NOK 6.2 billion (€595,000/$722,000) on weaker prices.
