Norwegian salmon producer Steinvik Fiskefarm is investing NOK 300 million (€30.5 million/$34.1 million) in plans to expand annual lumpfish production by a third to four million fish.

The deployment of lumpfish, also known as cleanerfish, as a preventative measure against sea lice is growing across the globe, leading some salmon producers to invest in their own production capacity.

Steinvik Fiskefarm says the new facility at Svelgen, Western Norway will allow smolts to grow larger before fish are released into cages in the sea.
