Norwegian salmon producer Nordlaks has signed a contract with China-based CIMC Raffles to build its first Havfarm, a massive marine aquaculture ship that is slated to contain 10,000 metric tons of salmon.

Nordlaks said Tuesday the ship would be ready for stocking salmon by the spring of 2020.

"The Havfarms will contribute to a further sustainable development of the aquaculture industry in Norway, and we are very pleased that we are now moving a big step closer to realization," said Inge Berg, founder and CEO of Nordlaks.
