Norway-based Fredrikstad Seafoods, a subsidiary of Nordic Aquafarms, announced Thursday it received the first 100,000 smolt at its land-based salmon farm in Fredrikstad, Norway.
"This is an important event in the history of Nordic Aquafarms and Fredrikstad Seafoods," said Nordic Aquafarms CEO Bernt Olav Rottingsnes. "After several years of planning and construction we are very pleased to have started production of salmon at one of the world’s largest land-based aquafarms."
He said the company expects to start selling product next May.
