The Australian aquaculture operator Seafarms opened headquarters for Project Sea Dragon in Darwin on May 8, taking it a step closer towards supporting its planned farm operations.

The Nissui-backed fish farm is set to come together by 2021 and anticipates producing 15,000 metric tons of black tiger shrimp per year.

The office, located in Northern Australia, will operate the grow-out facility, broodstock maturation center and a hatchery. The company anticipates creating 1,500 jobs in the area.

The next step to launching the project is expanding to the Quarantine and Founder Stock Centre in Western Australia, develop breeding facilities in the Northern Territory and a processing plant in the east Kimberly.
