The increasing commercialization of Thailand's fish farming industry is damaging farmers' interests and the food on which local communities depend, say environmentalists and producers, reports China Dialogue.

Cage nets for commercial fish farming are now a common sight along the rivers of north-eastern Thailand’s Isan region, especially the Phong, Chi and Man. Production of tilapia, largely along rivers in Thailand's northeastern Isan region has more than doubled in the last 15 years, from 83,780 metric tons in 2002 to 185,902 metric tons in 2017.
