The introduction of a single year class in its seawater salmon production is "the largest change New Zealand King Salmon has made to production plans in many years."

Introduced to help combat the effects of the warmer summer water temperatures that have hit earnings for the group for the last couple of years, the new system is expected to improve fish health and survival rates in this new reality.

A year class denotes one production group of salmon as they move through the freshwater and seawater grow out cycles.
