A new salmon vaccine has been shown in laboratory tests to reduce the number of female lice as well as their reproductive abilities.

The vaccine also presented few side effects in the salmon, but further validation of the vaccine is necessary to investigate long-term efficacy.

The project, run by Nofima and funded with NOK 1.6 million from Norway's Fisheries & Aquaculture Industry Research Fund (FHF), is being conducted in collaboration with researchers at the Center for Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology in Cuba.
