Equipment supplier Akva group Chile has appointed Christian Schafer as managing director.

Schafer has been with the company for 16 years.

He trained as a fisheries engineer at the Universidad Austral de Chile and has amassed vast aquaculture industry experience.

"His time in general management of the office in Australasia (2012 - 2014), Tasmania, Hobart, has given him tremendous exposure and understanding of the company and its parent,” said Andrew Campbell, Schafer's predecessor.

Campbell will now concentrate on his role as Akva group's as regional president for the Americas, Australasia, UK & Ireland.

Akva recently created an Americas land-based division, the result of strong global growth in sales of recirculated aquaculture systems (RAS) over recent years.
