The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe on Friday sued the Washington state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and state Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz over a recently announced ban on finfish aquaculture in all state waters.

The tribe is asking the court to provide an exception for all tribal commercial netpen aquaculture ventures, including those ventures "operating, consulting, or working with non-tribal commercial entities, and ensure said order does not impact any tribal or state or joint enhancement of netpens already in place, nor any netpens needed for compensatory mitigation of adverse impacts to fish," according to court documents filed with the state's Superior Court in Thurston County.
