Chilean salmon farmer Multiexport has officially stopped producing salmon smolts in its three concessions located in the Rupanco and Llanquihue lakes, as it pledged to do so in 2019.
The company will now produce all its smolts in land-based facilities.
It has harvested all the fish and removed all the structures, after operating in the lakes for 32 years.
"In this way, we are moving towards a more sustainable future," said Francisco Lobos, manager of corporate affairs and sustainability at Multiexport Foods.
