Oslo-listed salmon giant Mowi Scotland announced plans to move two of its inshore salmon farms, Loch Ewe and Loch Duich, due to their proximity to wild salmon habitats.

The relocation will enable relocation to sites "more appropriate for modern day aquaculture," the company said.

Mowi is in talks with the government, environmental groups and salmon fishery boards in order to complete the transfer, Managing Director of Mowi Scotland Ben Hadfield said.

The two sites will be permanently closed only if the company gets the green light to move the biomass to other locations and ensure jobs are kept safe.
