The National Trust for Scotland (NTS) has come out against Mowi's plans to build a new salmon farm beside the marine protected area of Hebridean island of Canna, citing risks to wildlife and environment, as well as a possible dent in the booming tourism industry, reported The Guardian.

The proposed plans calls for a farm that would produce 2,500 metric tons of organic salmon a cycle and utilizes eight "super-sized" fish pens by the Canna shoreline.

The giant fish farmer and processor has argued that the organic component makes their operation more sustainable by cutting the amount of fish to just a third of a regular farm.
